Road accidents kill two in Noakhali

Two people, including a schoolgirl, were killed in separate road accidents in Chatkhil and Hatia upazilas of Noakhali. Two more people were injured in the incident.

The accident happened on Monday night and Tuesday morning. The deceased are the son of Noor Islam Molla of Baripara village of Panchgao Union of Chatkhil Upazila. Shahjahan Molla (45) and Niha Akhtar (7), daughter of Alamgir Hossain of Gullakhali village of Hatia municipality. Deceased Niha Gullakhali was a child class student of Government Primary School.

According to local sources, Shahjahan Molla was going home in a battery operated auto-rickshaw on Sunday night. On the way, when his rickshaw reached in front of Mandbi Bepari house, a speeding CNG coming from the opposite direction hit his rickshaw from the front and both vehicles overturned and fell on the side of the road. Shahjahan was injured along with two drivers.

Chairman of Panchgao Union Parishad Syed Mahmud Hossain Tarun said that after the accident local people rescued Shahjahan who was seriously injured and admitted him first to Chatkhil Upazila Health Complex and later to Noakhali General Hospital. When his condition deteriorated in that hospital, he died at around 11:30 pm on the way to Dhaka for better treatment. After the funeral on Monday afternoon, the body of the deceased was buried in the family cemetery.

On the other hand, Niha Akter, a schoolgirl, was going home through Jahazamara-Nalchira road in Dwip Upazila Hatia after leaving school around 12 noon. 

After going some distance from the school, a speeding TomTom car hit him from behind, he fell on the road, bruised his head and various parts of his body, and fell unconscious. Later, the locals rescued her and took her to the Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared Niha dead.

Hatia Police Inspector (Investigation) Kanchan Kanti Das said that local people seized the car after the incident. The body of the deceased is in the hospital, later necessary measures will be taken in the incident.
