RMG workers demand implementation of wage board award

Leaders of Garments Sramik Andolan for Increasing Wages of Workers on Sunday at a sit-in demanded implementation of the wage board award on time for increasing wages of garment workers.

Leaders of the garment workers’ rights bodies held the sit-in in front of the National Press Club where garment labour leader Taslima Akhter chaired.

Labour leader Mantu Ghosh said that the wage board was formed five months ago for revision of wages of garment workers.

He also said that the wage board was scheduled to announce the award within six months of its formation but so far the activities of the board were very slow. He demanded that   in the next wage board award, the minimum wage of the garment workers should be made Tk 25,000 per month.

Taslima Akhter said that garment workers were suffering much to run their families facing abnormal price hikes of the essential commodities.

Labour leaders Zahirul Islam, Harun Rashid, Shahidul Islam Sabuj, Raju Ahmed, Pradip Roy and others spoke at the sit-in programme.
