Agitated ready-made garments workers on Thursday blocked roads at Shymali intersection, causing serious traffic gridlock across the capital. Workers withdrew their blockade in the capital after getting assurance of paying all their due wages. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Teggaon Division) Wahiduzzaman said, “Representatives of the BGMEA negotiated with the agitated workers and the owners of the garments.”

Following their dialogue, workers withdrew their three-hour long barricade, which created traffic jam, he added. Earlier in the day, RMG workers started bringing procession by blocking roads in city's Shyamoli demanding payment of due wages at around 9:am. Officer-in-charge (OC) Kazi Shahiduzzaman told that the protest began on Shampa Market premise at Shyamoli Ring Road.

The workers of Dynamic garments were protesting to settle the outstanding wages of some 80 workers of the factory, he added. Eyewitness said the protest caused immense traffic congestion on the roads causing distress to many people. Police tried to disperse the workers from the road to prevent the blockade but failed.

Parents with their school-going children faced serious problem as they failed to find any vehicles for going to their destinations. There were very few rickshaws on the street. However, they repeatedly refused to carry passengers due to the blockade.
