Incident of robbery and kidnapping suddenly spiked in Meghna River. 8 fishing trawlers have been robbed in Tazumuddin upazila and 5 fishermen in the area were kidnapped. Later, after giving Tk 1 lakh as ransom, the fishermen were released. The incident took place on Sunday midnight.
Family members of these fishermen said that theyon Sunday midnight were catching fishes at Char Mozammel area. At that time, gangs of robbers attacked their boats.
They robbed 8 trawlers and took fishes, nets, cash and mobile phones from them. Robbers also kidnapped 5 fishermen at that time. The kidnapped anglers are Maksud, Shafi Majhi, Nakib, Harun and Rubel.
Later, family members of the fishermen paid a ransom of Tk 1 lakh without informing the authorities. Upon asking, the family members said that robbers threatened them about not informing the authorities.
Later, robbers released the fishermen in blindfolded at Hakimuddin Ghat area.
Tazumuddin OC SM ZIaul Haque said that police were informed about the robbey at late night. They are currently tracking the transection number.
BCG Contingent Commander Md Sultan of Tazumuddin area said that the patrolling in Meghna has been increased. BCG was not informed about the robbery. They will increase the drive in this area to curb down the crime rate.
