River bank protection work at Kashembazar point under Horipur union of Sundarganj upazila in Gaibandha district is going on in full swing. As the large portion of the Teesta river’s left bank is located under Kurigram district, for this reason Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), Kurigram is implementing the work at the point at a cost of Taka 1.50 crore, reports BSS.
Geo Textile sand bags are being dumped into the point to check the erosion. Later, Geo Tube bags would also be dumped into the point to check the erosion permanently.
Executive engineer of BWDB Md. Ariful Islam said that the work would be finished at the end of the current month. With the completion of the work, the homesteads and arable lands and the establishments of Kashembazar would be saved from the erosion by the river Teesta.
Local lawmaker Barrister Shamim Haidar Patwary, visited the point and witnessed the development work being done by BWDB, Kurigram on June 7.
