National women’s football team standout Ritu Porna Chakma has received financial support for her mother’s cancer treatment, courtesy of the Sports Welfare Foundation under the Ministry of Youth and Sports. A cheque of BDT 2 lakh was presented to her sister, Pampi Chakma, during a small ceremony held at the Rangamati Deputy Commissioner’s conference room.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Habib Ullah handed over the donation on behalf of Sports Adviser Asif Ahmed Bhuiyan. The gesture highlights the government’s continued commitment to supporting athletes beyond the pitch.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Commissioner said, “Ritu Porna has brought pride and honour to our nation. Her mother’s long struggle with cancer deserves the utmost care, and this support is intended to ensure her treatment is not disrupted. It's only right that we stand by her during this time.”

Also present were Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ruhul Amin, Kaukali Upazila Executive Officer Kazi Atikur Rahman, NDC S. M. Manna, and District Sports Officer Harunur Rashid Liton.

The donation underscores the vital link between sport and social responsibility, and the importance of uplifting athletes in their personal battles just as they uplift the nation through sport.
