As lives and homes have been washed away in the recent flood, people in the affected areas are suffering a lot. Despite such harsh conditions it is well appreciated that the government has been able to keep a steady flow of relief materials in these trying times.

However, it is encouraging to know that the flood waters are slowly receding as the water level in the major rivers is also decreasing. In the midst of all these there is an impending problem that needs people to be aware of.

A report published in this daily showed that an increase in various diseases is taking place from the flood-hit areas amid continuous improvement of flood situation in the country.

This means that although the waters are receding, it is leaving behind the citizens with diseases on its way out. The report also shows that 40,710 people suffer from different diseases including diarrhoea, respiratory tract infection (RTI), skin diseases, eye inflammation and snake bites in 33 flood-hit districts over the last 40 days.

Proper awareness must be created amongst

the people of the affected areas so that the

number of victims can be reduced.

In this time of crisis when a pandemic is ensuing around the world Bangladesh has been also hit very hard with high death tolls. At this time the fact of people suffering from other diseases is something that needs to be taken into serious consideration and as such proper awareness must be created amongst the people of the affected areas so that the number of victims can be reduced.

Meanwhile, the death of 169 people by drowning while 17 others dying of snake bites during flood is very tragic and something that should not have taken place.

At this time the best the inhabitants of these affected areas can do is to hunker down and follow proper procedure during this flooding. In all, an awareness campaign must be undertaken by the government to curb the number of victims. It is also very problematic for such cases to rise during this pandemic and proper steps must be taken quickly.
