We welcome the efforts to restore peace in the country, with the support of Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus-led interim government. The general people of the country expressed their full solidarity with this interim government.

The interim government should continue to make every effort to be inclusive, including by taking into account the voices of our students and people across the country. In this regard, the government must conduct a full, independent, impartial, and transparent investigation into all acts of violence.

Senior leaders of BNP and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Monday held meetings with Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House, Jamuna, in the capital. This is the first formal meeting between the head of the interim government and BNP and Jamaat leaders since the interim government’s formation on August 8.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told journalists that they gave Dr Yunus-led interim government the time necessary to create a suitable atmosphere for holding a national election. The interim government obviously needs time to create a congenial environment for the election. BNP has given full support to all the activities of the current interim government.

We believe the interim government will create a ray of hope among people that they (people) will get back their right to franchise and the right to speak and write. Therefore, we now feel that it is the sole duty of every patriotic people to help this government.

The general people of the country

solidarity

with the

interim

government

The ousted Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government destroyed democracy and the electoral system by dashing the dreams of the people. The students and the general people expressed a strong determination to restore democracy and people’s democratic rights, including the right of franchise. Our country was liberated through a bloody war 53 years back in 1971 with a hope to build a truly democratic state. But democratic rights had been taken away. The country’s people did not have the right to franchise and the right to speak and write. All the institutions of the state have been ruined in a planned way. Awami League had a plan to establish a fascist one-party governance system by destroying the electoral system. People from all walks of life and all political parties got united and organised to get rid of the situation in the country and restore democracy and all the lost rights.

Being imbued with the spirit of the students’ movement,   people from all walks of life woke up and took to the streets to restore democracy,  get their voting and other rights back, and live in peace. They all were united and organised to oust the Sheikh Hasina-led autocratic government. The prices of all commodities and oil, gas, and power have increased so much that people pay through the nose. All must remain alert and must not be misled by the attempts to create instability and chaos and to disturb communal harmony in the country.

All political parties want the people to help the interim government by upholding religious harmony and public security. This interim government will facilitate faster recovery in various sectors of the country. This government will turn Bangladesh into a new possibility.

We, however, think the ensuring law and order and good governance, establishing the rule of law, restoring democracy, and bringing down the price of essentials will be a big challenge for the government. All believe this new interim government will salvage the nation by taking all-out measures and tackling the ongoing situation.
