Rice import continues thru Darshana Port

About 24,482.621 metric tons of rice has been imported privately from India through Darshana Port from July 7 to September 6 this year for controlling the price of rice in Bangladesh. 

It is learnt from Darshana Port, 2,434.621 metric tons of rice is imported by Mojumdar Agrotech International in July, 12,136 metric tons rice by Setu Enterprise and Mojumder Agrotech International jointly in August and 9,912 metric tons of rice by the same in up to September 6.  Mir Liakot Ali, Superintendent of Darshana International Rail Station said, this imported rice are being sent by goods train to Darshana Port through Gede Port of India after purchasing rice from different districts of India.  When the goods trains arrived at Darshana International Rail Station, Custom and Excise Department, Rail Way Department and Department of Plant Protection verified the documents on importing connection. Then the train left the station to N’para Rail Station of Jashor and Ullahpar Rail Station of Sorijgonj for unload the rice.  

AKM Shahidul Hoque, District Food Officer of Chuadanga said, price of rice is in stable for importing rice. 

It may be mentioned that a total of 4,900 metric tons of rice are waiting to enter into Bangladesh through Darshana Port.
