The prices of rice, pulses and edible oil has seen a sharp rise at different kitchen market in Dhaka whith vegetables’ price showing a down trend Vegetables’ prices reduced by Tk 5 to Tk 10, while the price of onion, garlic, ginger, rice, and others price in on the rise, according to the markets updates from the capital on Friday.
The price of eggs has remained stable while mutton and beef saw a rise by Tk 30. The onion was sold from Tk 55 to Tk 60 a kg, which was Tk 32 last week, while ginger was sold at Tk 300 per kg and garlic at at Tk 140 to Tk 170 per kg. Based on the market and quality, it was found that, Najirsahil rice was being sold at Tk 72 per kg which was at Tk 55 to Tk 60 a week ago, while the BR-28 was being sold at Tk 48 to Tk 50 which was at Tk 36 to Tk 38 a week ago, Miniket at Tk 60 to Tk 64 instead of Tk 48.
Daily price statistics of commodities from Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) showed an upward trend of rice prices. After visiting the capital’s Karwan Bazar, Rampura, Malibagh, Santibagh and Kamalapur kitchen markets, Bangladesh Post found that, potato was sold at Tk 20 to Tk 30 a kg, bean at Tk 30 to Tk 40 per kg, green chili at Tk 20 to Tk 50 a kg, tomato at Tk 25 to Tk 30 a kg, Karla at Tk 30 to Tk 40 a kg, brinjal at Tk 40 a kg, papaya at Tk 25 to Tk 30 a kg, cucumber at Tk 30 to Tk 60, while groud and cabbage prices remain unchanged.
Per kg broiler chicken was selling at Tk 120, Pakistani cock at Tk 150 to Tk 180, layer chicken at Tk 108 to Tk 200 a kg, while the local chicken was sold at Tk 400 to Tk 450 per kg. At present, price of beef is at Tk 590 a kg, mutton at Tk 800 to Tk 850 a kg, which is higher than the previous week. Md Yousuf, a trader from the capital’s Karwan Bazar kitchen market, said, “Price will fluctuate until the situation improves. “Supply against the demand has already decreased,” he lamented before expressing frustration over his business in the coming days.
