Rice, chicken prices up, vegetables, egg down

Prices of rice and chicken saw a sharp rise in the kitchen markets in the capital over the last week while  the prices of eggs, onions and vegetables came down.

On the other hand, prices of oil, potatoes and other products including beef and mutton remained unchanged. 

On Friday, while visiting different kitchen markets in the capital, including Karwan Bazar this correspondent found such price variations of essential commodities. 

BR-28 rice was being sold at Tk 52 to 54 per kilogram (kg), Miniket at Tk 65 to Tk 66, Nazir at Tk 65 to Tk 68 per kg. 

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder recently said, "As imported rice-laden trucks stuck due to gridlock in the border area and yet to enter the country, that's why rice price is still higher. Soon price will come to an affordable level as soon as those trucks enter the country". 

After slight increase in price, boiler chicken was being sold at Tk 140 per kg, Sonali chicken was selling at Tk 220 to Tk 230 per kg, red cock chicken at Tk 200 per kg, beef at Tk 550 per kg and mutton at Tk 900 per kg.  

The price of eggs has reduced by Tk 5 a dozen. Red eggs were being sold at Tk 85, duck eggs at Tk 155 to Tk 160, and a dozen of local chicken eggs at Tk 190 to Tk 200. 

A chicken trader at Karwan Bazar said, "Due to winter poultry farm reduced broiler chicken production, so prices may be higher in the coming days". 

In the vegetable markets, it was found that, radish was selling at Tk 20 per kg, bean at Tk 20 per kg, tomato at Tk 30 per kg, turnip at Tk 20 per kg, string bean at Tk 50, brinjal at Tk 30, cucumber at Tk 40, parwal at 50, papaya at Tk 30, bitter gourd at Tk 40, okra at Tk 40, carrots at Tk 40 per kg, per piece of cauliflower and cabbage now at Tk 20 and per piece gourd is being sold at Tk 40.  

In these markets, chital fish was selling at Tk 450 to Tk 500 per kg, Awn fish at Tk 500, Rohi at Tk 250 to Tk 350 per kg, Katla at Tk 170 to Tk 280, Tilapia at Tk 130 to Tk 150, Boal at Tk 400 to Tk 500, Pangas at at Tk 120 to Tk 150, Pabda at Tk 150 to Tk 250, and Shing was being sold at Tk 300 to Tk 450 (based on quality and size).
