RHD removes hundreds of illegal structures in Ashulia

Roads and Highway Department (RHD) on Thursday evicted approximately 100 illegal structures that were illegally set up next to Nabinagar-Chandra highway and caused huge traffic and intercepting vehicle movement as well in Ashulia.

The drive basically conducted at Baipail intersection in Ashulia, on capital’s outskirts led by Md. Kamruzzaman Mia, Executive Magistrate of RHD, Dhaka zone, in cooperation with local police.

Md. Arafat Saklain, Sub-Divisional Engineer of RHD, Manikganj told Bangladesh Post that the structures which were demolished during the drive were set up grabbing highway’s land illegally, and they will conduct another drive to free the rest portion of the highway within a few days.

It was seen that most of the structures that were demolished in this drive were bus counters and some were tiny roadside shops like tea stalls and so, besides some local political people used to control these roadside structures and been extorting money from them, locals alleged.

S this drive, and it will continue until their jurisdictional area is completely free.

Naimul Islam, Deputy Assistant Engineer along with other officials of Manikganj Roads and Highway Department were present at the drive.
