RHD for banning motorbikes on Dhaka-Bhanga expressway

Roads and Highways Department (RHD) is considering banning motorcycles on Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway and the department has already sent a proposal to the ministry concerned in this connection. 

Roads and Highways Department (RHD) chief engineer AKM Manir Hossain Pathan said this while speaking as the chief guest at an agreement signing ceremony with the Korean Expressway Corporation (KEC) on Toll Collection activity, Intelligent Transport System (TIS) Operation, and Operation and Maintenance of Jatir Pita Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Mohasarak held at the Department of Roads and Highways headquarters in the capital on Wednesday. 

He said, “We have already sent a proposal the ministry and other officials to ban motorcycles on the expressway. Motorcycles would be allowed in the service lane.”

Responding to a question, he said the decision on banning motorcycles on the expressway would be finalized after discussions with other stakeholders.

The maximum toll for expressway has been fixed at Tk 1,690 for freight trailers. And the minimum toll was fixed at Tk 30 for a motorcycle.

Besides, toll for heavy truck is Tk 1,100, medium truck is Tk 550, big bus is Tk 495, mini truck is Tk 415, minibus or coaster is Tk 275, microbus is Tk 220, four-wheeler is Tk 220 and sedan car or private car is Tk 140 has been fixed. 

There will be a total of six toll plazas from Dholaipar to Bhanga. At the Mawa point, there will be three toll plazas at Abdullahpur, Dhaleshwari, Srinagar and three more at Kuliabazar, Maligram and Bhanga after crossing Padma Bridge. If vehicles enter through a booth, they have to pay for at least to the next toll plaza.
