RFL, the leading business conglomerate in Bangladesh, has introduced a new range of motorcycle helmets in the market under the brand ‘Safemate’. The initiative aims to provide bikers with high-quality helmets that are affordable and meet the country's safety standards. RN Paul, the Managing Director of RFL Group, unveiled the cover of the Safemate helmet at a hotel in the capital city on Thursday.

The Safemate helmets are locally manufactured at the factory of Durable Plastic Limited, a sister concern of RFL Group, situated in Palash, Narsingdi. With an annual production capacity exceeding 120,000 pieces, the factory represents an initial investment of around Tk 20 crore.

Currently, the annual helmet market in Bangladesh is valued at over Tk 500 crore, with the majority of helmets being imported. Approximately 60 percent of imported helmets come from India, while the remaining 40 percent are sourced from China.

During the unveiling event, RN Paul emphasized the significance of helmets as essential accessories for bikers. He stressed that wearing helmets is mandatory as per the country's existing laws for both motorcycle riders and pillion passengers. As the number of motorcycle users in Bangladesh continues to rise due to various factors like socio-economic conditions and lifestyle changes, the demand for helmets has also increased.

RN Paul further highlighted the need for high-quality helmets, as many imported helmets in the market do not meet standard safety requirements. In response to this concern, RFL took the initiative to produce Safemate helmets, which are Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) certified, making them the only locally certified helmets in the country. RFL aims to provide top-notch helmets that are accessible to all, aligning with their commitment to delivering quality products within the purchasing power of the people.

Toukirul Islam, Executive Director of Durable Plastic Limited, elaborated on the key features of the Safemate helmets. The helmets are crafted from advanced ABS shell and PC material, ensuring robustness and safety. They come equipped with high-quality belts and locking systems, along with an advanced ventilation system to enhance user comfort during journeys.

The Safemate helmets will be available in two types: half face and full face. The maximum retail price for the half face helmet is Tk 1,400, while the full face helmet will be priced at Tk 2,250. These helmets are now available at superstores as well as shops specializing in bike accessories and helmets.

Durable Plastic Limited plans to meet the local demand first and subsequently explore exporting Safemate helmets to international markets. Some foreign buyers have already visited the factory and expressed satisfaction with the production system.

The launch event was attended by various high officials from Durable Plastics Limited and PRAN-RFL Group, including the Head of Marketing, Esfaquel Hoque, Assistant General Manager (Operation), Nahid Kabir, and Assistant General Manager (Public Relations) from PRAN-RFL Group, Touhiduzzaman.
