Retired professor sets example in radish farming

By growing Radishes weighing seven to eight kilograms each, retired Professor Hafizur Rahman of Rajshahi’s Arani Degree College has drawn attention of local people.  

Now, many people are rushing around his field and to the Office of local Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) to have a look at the huge radishes. 

Professor Hafizur Rahman lives in village Sonadaha under Bagha upazila of Rajshahi. On Tuesday morning, Hafizur Rahman plucked a huge radish weighing 7 kg from his field. He has deposited the radish with local Agriculture Extension Department Office so that other people can watch that. 

Recently, Hafizur Rahman had also plucked a radish weighing 8.57 kilogram from the same field. However, all the radish of his field are not as large as those two. 

Hafizur Rahman informed, after getting retired from the job, he spent his time cultivating vegetables but he could not imagine such a huge radish would grow in his field. No one has so far seen such a huge radish during their life time, he claimed.

On Tuesday morning, Hafizur Rahman handed over the 7 kg radish to Bagha upazila Nirbahi Officer Papiya Sultana. Arani Upazila Parishad chairman Rafiqul Islam was also present at this time.  UNO Papiya Sultana handed over the radish to Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer Kamrul Islam.  

Kamrul Islam said, ' this huge sized radish is hybrid. I have also never seen such a huge radish earlier.' He said, the radish has been put in front of the DAE office for exhibition.
