Retired army officer injured in attack dies in Cox’s Bazar

Muhammad Mamun ,54, a retired sergeant of Bangladesh Army, son of late Amir Hamja of village Shatduniapara under Pekua Upazila was injured in the attack by his brothers as a sequel of land dispute,  died during treatment at Pekua Upazila Health Complex under Cox's Bazar district on Saturday midnight. 

According to the relatives of the deceased and the people of the locality, there was a long-standing dispute between retired army Mamun with his brothers Mozammel Haque and Momtazul Haque over the possession of a piece of their paternal land. On Saturday morning, the disputed land was measured by the Surveyor when Mamun locked into an altercation with two of his brothers. Later, two brothers-Mozammel and Momtaz assaulted Mamun injuring him fatally. 

Being informed, wife of Mamun and their sons arrived at the scene from Banderban in the afternoon and rescued Mamun from the spot and admitted him to Pekua Health Complex. The condition of Mamun turned critical at night and he succumbed to his injuries in the hospital at night. 

Papiya Sarwar Arvee, wife of deceased Mamun said, she with her husband and children lived in Bandarban.

 In the morning of Saturday, local people informed her about the assaulting her husband and she arrived on the spot in the afternoon and rescued her husband Mamun from the area and admitted him to the hospital.

She alleged that her husband's brothers Momtaz and Mozammel forcefully occupied a piece of land of Mamun for a long time and locked in clashes with her husband over the land. 

Sherajul Mostafa, Officer-in-Charge of Pekua PS informed, the dead body was handed over to the family members after autopsy and legal action will be taken accordingly.
