This is good news indeed that broadband internet service has been restored partially in government institutions, banks, media, power and gas supply offices. All activities based on internet services, including export-import trade, in the country came to a halt due to lack of internet connectivity for five days.
Overhead optical fibre on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway burnt by BNP-Jamaat-Shibir men has been installed again apart from restoration of operational and transmission lines of data centre at Mohakhali in the capital. Restoration of broadband internet services in important offices on priority basis came as a huge relief to people whose lives and businesses were severely affected by internet blackout since Thursday last.
Government and private offices reopened on a limited scale on Wednesday after five days, including three days of general holidays and break in the curfew clamped across the country on Friday to tackle widespread violence amid student protests over the quota reform in public service. The capital city almost returned to normality with increased traffic, movement of people and reopening of shops and offices.

The government also relaxed the curfew in Dhaka for seven hours from 10 am on Wednesday and today (Thursday) aiming to bring normalcy in public life. Besides, production in garment factories resumed after five days of suspension and huge business losses.
Considering the urgency of banking sector, diplomatic zone, readymade garment industry, export-import and outsourcing sector, internet services should be restored fully as early as possible. On the other hand, social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, X and Whatsapp are being used in spreading rumours while foreign media are also involved in spreading propaganda against the government. In addition, paid agents are involved in spreading rumours. Therefore, the countrymen should follow mainstream media for getting accurate information.
We believe broadband connections will be restored completely soon as tInternet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) has already been able to restore over 40 percent of connections across the country. Though important offices and sectors are getting priority, we think the government will work relentlessly to restore all connections as soon as possible.
