Residents along Myanmar border pass days in fear

The border between Bangladesh and Myanmar is in a state of flux. 

Residents of the border area are passing days in extreme fear due to the sound of firing. 300 families at risk on the No-man's-land side of the border have been identified for relocation. 

Residents of the border area also heard gunshots on Monday. However, no motor shell or bullet reached Bangladesh. A delegation from the administration including Bandarban Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police visited the border area. 

499 SSC candidates from Ghumdhum border area have been shifted to Kutupalong area of Ukhiya in Cox's Bazar. 

The residents of the border are passing their days in extreme anxiety and fear. At night, the sound of gunshots and motorbikes is increasing. Analysts say that Myanmar should respond diplomatically to the military activities Myanmar is carrying out in violation of international law. The border area on the other side is shaking with the loud sound of firing from the bunker.

Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban Yachmin Parveen Tibriji and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Tariqul Islam Tariq visited Tumbru area on Monday (September 19) morning to monitor the current situation in the border area. At around 11 o'clock, the DC visited various schools including the zero point after visiting the Ghumdhum border area.

Shafiqul Islam, a UP member of Ward No. 1 of Ghumdhum Union, said that in the meeting of the upazila administration, it was proposed to evacuate 300 families near the dangerous border. The administration said it will consider the matter.

In this regard, Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban Yachmin Parveen Tibriji said, as the shelling continues inside Myanmar, it has been decided to evacuate the Bangladeshi families who are at risk on the border. However, they will be removed at the discretion of the residents. Initial preparations have been made, if the situation worsens, the final decision will be taken.

Before visiting the Ghumdhum border area of Naikshyongchari, the Deputy Commissioner held a meeting with the local public representatives at the Ghumdhum UP office regarding the risks to the locals. Bandarban Superintendent of Police was with him at that time. Tariqul Islam, Naikxyongchari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Salma Ferdous, Ghumdhum UP Chairman Jahangir Aziz and law enforcement officers were present.

District Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Bandarban visited Ghumdhum High School SSC examination center which was shifted to Kutupalong in Ukhiya due to security threat due to border terror.

Rahim Uddin, a resident of Ghumdhum area, said that we are very worried about the ongoing conflict between Myanmar Army and Arkan Army on the other side of the border. Day and night shelling has left the fear and terror. In this conflict that has been going on for one and a half months, almost people of the border have moved to a safe place near their relatives. Almost all the shops in Tumbru Bazaar are closed.

Mohammad Alam, a member of Ward No. 3 of Ghumdhum UP, said that even on Sunday night, there was heavy shelling in the villages of Tumbru, Panirchhara and Raimmakhali in Maungdoo, Myanmar. People living on the border are kept awake at night by the sound of gunshots. Atang is unable to go to paddy cultivation, field farms and vegetable fields.

Housewife Manisha Bala said, it is difficult to go out of the house to see cultivation. Children are also shaking with the loud sound of gunshots. The whole time is spent in fear. No one can leave the area because there are no relatives to go home to.

Police Superintendent of Bandarban. Tariqul Islam Tariq said that regular contact is being maintained with the people living on the border along with the local public representatives. We are working for the security of the people living in the border area. Overall intelligence surveillance is being maintained.

On the other hand, Palangkhali UP Chairman M Gafur Uddin Chowdhury has advised to evacuate more than half a hundred families in the bordering area of Palangkhali in Cox's Bazar Ukhiya. The chairman made this request to the upazila administration fearing that these border families would be injured in the heavy shelling on the other side.

The conflict inside Myanmar on the Bangladesh border is increasing day by day. The entire border area including Tumbru, Baishaphari, Reju Gorjanbania, Amtali of Naikshyongchari trembled with the loud sound of the shells fired from bunkers. 

Shells and mortar shells fired from Myanmar are coming inside Bangladesh. In this situation, as a precautionary measure, Bangladeshis near the border have been moved to a safe distance, according to various sources.
