Reshom factory reopens after 21 years under private ownership

After being closed for 21 years, the Reshom factory, a medium industrial establishment in Thakurgaon, has been reopened under private ownership. The factory has been renamed 'Supriya Reshom Factory'.

Ramesh Chandra Sen, President of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Water Resources and Member of Parliament for Thakurgaon-1 Constituency, inaugurated the factory as the chief guest on Thursday.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Superintendent of Police Uttam Prasad Pathak, Chairman of District Council and President of District Awami League Muhammad Sadek Quraishi, General Secretary Deepak Kumar Roy, Chairman of Sadar Upazila Parishad and President of Upazila Awami League Arunanshu Dutt Tito, and the Founder Chairman of Supriya Group, Bablur Rahman, who chaired the occasion. Other attendees included officials from the Regional Silk of Rangpur, Deputy Director of Extension Office Mahbub Ul Haque, Founder President of Thakurgaon Chamber of Commerce and Industry Moddachher Hossain, President of District Traders Welfare Society Faridul Islam Farid, and President of Press Club Mansoor Ali. The silk factory was initially established by the private development organization RDRS in the financial year 1975-76 in the Govindanagar area of Thakurgaon on an area of about three and a half acres. It was later handed over to the Silk Board in 1981. However, due to losses, the government shut down the factory on November 29, 2002.

Now, the local Supriyo Group has signed an agreement with the Silk Board Authority to operate the factory on rent for five years, acquiring the rights to use its infrastructure and machinery for Tk 8.10 lakh.
