‘Researchers need to innovate sustainable tech for welfare’

The Bangladesh Forest Research Institute (BFRI) has organized the concluding ceremony of a 14-day training course titled 'Forestry Research and Development in Bangladesh' for newly recruited researchers.

The concluding ceremony of the forestry research course was held at the auditorium of Bangladesh Forest Research Institute on Saturday.

Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Md. Shahab Uddin addressed the concluding ceremony of the training course as the chief guest.

BFRI Director Dr. Rafiqul Haider presided over the meeting.  Additional Secretary (Development Division) of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change Md. Mizanul Haque Chowdhury and Justin Green, Asia Pacific Program Manager of US Forest Service spoke as special guests.

Environment and Forests Minister Shahab Uddin said, ths sustainable development, researchers need to innovate sustainable technologies for the benefit of the country and the people.  Research on forests and forest resources is essential to tackle the harmful aspects of climate change.  The government has given priority to research in various plans including Bangladesh Delta Plan (BDP) 2100, Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan 2030, Perspective Plan 2021-2041, SDG 2030.

Through newly joined researchers, BFRI will play a more pioneering role in forest research.  We thank USAID and the US Forest Service's Compass Program, Bangladesh, for their overall support of the training course.

Justin Green, US Forest Service said, ‘Since the US Forest Service provides research and training on nature, forest and forest resources.  Therefore, I am happy to provide assistance to the Bangladesh Forest Research Institute in the training course on forestry. '

Additional Secretary Md. Mizanul Haque Chowdhury said, "If Bangladesh is to be represented in the world court, there is no alternative but research."  BFRI is making significant contributions to forest research and technology innovation.  Newly joined researchers will continue to play a role in research and technology innovation.BFRI Director thanked all the trainees and guests and hoped for similar cooperation in the future as well.  The program was conducted by BFRI Publicity Officer Yakub Ali.
