Research on autism, ethnic minorities’ language emphasised

A day-long International Conference on ‘Multilingualism, Multimodality and Language Research’ was held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University on Sunday (February 19). 

Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the conference as chief guest. Department of Linguistics of DU organised this event.

Presided over by the Chairman of DU Linguistics Department Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ashaduzzaman, the inaugural function was addressed by convener of the conference Prof. Dr. Syed Shahrier Rahman. Dr. Alice Gaby of School of Languages, Literatures, Cultures and Linguistics of Monash University, Australia delivered the keynote speech at the conference. 

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman said that DU Linguistics Department maintains and upholds academic excellence to meet the linguistics goals of the country as well as global ones. He emphasized on conducting researches on languages to cope with the needs of the autistics and indigenous people in order to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Teachers, students and researchers of Dhaka University will be highly benefitted by this international conference, DU VC hopped.

Researchers and Faculty members from home and abroad presented ten papers in two sessions of the conference. Teachers, researchers and students from Australia, India, Cyprus, Romania, Uruguay and Dhaka University took part at this conference.
