The repair work of the newly constructed municipality building in Gurusdaspur of Natore ,which remained unused for over a decade, began on Monday.
Gurusdaspur Municipality Administrator and Upazila Nirabahi Officer Fahmid Afroz visited the building around 11am and formally inaugurated the repairing works.
According to sources, the construction works of the Muncipality started several years ago but the works remained unfinished. The unused three-storied building was a part of a five-storied building. After taking charge, the incumbent Administrator took the initiative to repair the building. At the first stage, a contractor has been given the charge to repair the building fully up to the third floor at a cost of Taka 50 lakhs.
UNO Fahmida Afroz also inaugurated the works of development of eight roads the same day from the fund allocated in the budget of the Municipality of 2024-2025 fiscal year. At the same time, in the first stage, the works of development of Taka 14 crores under the proposed Development Project amounting to Taka 400 crores of the Municipality are going to be started soon. The project works included the development of the Zia Canal, road carpeting etc.
The inaugural function was attended, among others, by Upazila Social Welfare Officer Shafiqul Islam, LGED Engineer Milon Mia, Agriculture Officer Harunur Rashid and he Manager of Sonali Bank Md Russel.
Local people, however, lauded the starting of repairing the building after a long time by the UNO and Municipal Administrator Fahmida Afroz.
