We appreciate the government’s decision to reopen the country’s primary schools from today (Wednesday). All primary education institutions across the country will resume activities in full swing from today, says a government notification on Tuesday.
All government primary schools under the ministry of primary and mass education, child welfare primary schools run by the Shishu Kalyan Trust and learning centres of the Non-formal Education Bureau have been instructed to take necessary measures to start full-time activities as per the regular schedule. We think there is no alternative but to keep running the country’s academic activities for the sake of the kids. After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on August 5 announced the reopening of all offices, schools, colleges and universities from Agust 6. Although all educational institutions, including schools, colleges, madrasah and universities, across the country have been asked to reopen from August 6, many parents are particularly concerned about the safety of their children during their commute to and from school in these challenging times. Therefore, the classrooms stay empty despite reopening order.
There is no alternative
but to keep running the country’s
academic activities for the sake of
the kids
Many schools and colleges in the capital have remained open but students’ attendance has dropped remarkably. Many guardians are reluctant to send their children to schools and colleges, especially those who live far from the educational institutions. The suffocating situation has cast a shadow over academic activities across the country.
Additionally, educational institutions have been forced to postpone scheduled exams, compounding the stress and uncertainty over students’ studies. This past situation had left students and parents in a state of panic, with fears of a more challenging political situation throughout July till August 13.The complete shutdown of educational institutions cannot continue for a long or indefinite period as it is leading to anger and frustration among the students and guardians. Now the time for reopening all educational institutions has come to save the country from academic disaster.
We hope, the gloomy cloud that covered the country’s education sector will start disappearing and a new bright sun will rise after the uncertainty. Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has also expressed satisfaction at the significant improvement of the law and order in the country. Therefore, we believe that the interim government will provide cooperation and security to our kids for their smooth travelling to and from their respective educational institutions.
