Teachers and students of Rajshahi University on Thursday staged demonstration on campus demanding removal of vice chancellor Pro M Abdus Sobhan and pro-vice chancellor Prof Choudhury M Zakaria for their alleged activities of uttering ‘Jai Hind’ and fixing money to appoint a lecturer.

The teachers formed a human chain in front of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Senate Building under the banner of ‘Teachers’ Society Against Corruption’ at 11:00 am where students of the university also joined expressing solidarity with the teachers’ demands.

Addressing the human chain, the teachers said that the current university administration has long been involved with the teachers’ requirement business and pro VC’s leaked audio clip was a part of that business.

RU mass communication and journalism department Professor Dulal Chandra Bishwas said, ‘We are here for a good administration. A transparent and good administration can never be formed if the corrupted administration is not removed earlier.’

Bangla department Professor Shafiqunnabi Samadi said, ‘It is known to all how Professor M Abdus Sobhan appointed his daughter’s husband at the university IBA.’

Meanwhile, economics department’s associate Professor Md Farid Khan stood at the university Shaheed Shamsuzzoha graveyard in bare foot for three hours with the placard ‘Durniti Mukta Sikkhangon Chai. Shikkhoker Morjada Niya Bachte Chai’. Professor Farid Khan said he stood there protesting against the recent anarchy, irregularities, and corruption prevailing in the educational institutes.

Earlier in the morning, more than hundred students formed a human chain in front of the university central library. Bangladesh Chhatra Federation, RUCSU Andolon Mancha and Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad organised the human chain

The students demanded removal of the university pro VC professor Choudhury M Zakaria and urged the vice chancellor to say sorry for his utterance of Jai Hind.

BNP backed Jatiyatabadi Teachers’ Forum urged the concerned authority to investigate into the allegation. They also urged Pro-VC professor Choudhury M Zakaria to resign from his post due to the fair investigation.
