Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul
Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul, a renowned songwriter, composer and music director, was suffering from heart disease for a long time. He was diagnosed with heart block at the National Heart Institute in Bangladesh. Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul died of cardiac arrest at his own residence at Aftabnagar, Dhaka on Tuesday, January 22, at the age of 63. Bulbul was awarded the Ekushey Padak, National Film Award for his contribution to music. His popular tunes include: ‘Shab Kata Janala Khule Dao Na’, ‘O Majhi Nau Chaira De O Majhi Paal Uraiya De’, ‘Amar Buker Moddhekhane’, ‘Amar Babar Mukhe Prothom Jedin’ etc.
Tele Samad
He underwent bypass surgery in the United States in 2017. At the end of 2018, his red blood cell count was seen to be low. Also he had problems of chest infection and diabetes. Tele Samad died at the Square Hospital in Dhaka on April 6, 2019. At the time of his death, he was 74 years old. His real name is Abdus Samad. However, he is more known to the audience as ‘Tele Samad’. He first appeared in director Nazrul Islam’s ‘Car Bou’ in 1973. He has acted in almost 600 films in four decades. Tele Samad has done his last film with Animesh Aich’s ‘Zero Degree’. He has also sung in over fifty films outside of acting.
Subir Nandi
For a long time, Subir Nandi was suffering from kidney and heart disease. On April 14, his physical condition began to deteriorate. He was taken to Singapore on April 30. He died there, after suffering two consecutive heart attacks on May6 and 7. More than two and a half thousand songs have been sung in his long 40-year career. From radio to television, then to movies, he has also given numerous popular songs. His debut solo album ‘Subir Nandir Gaan’ came out in the market under the banner of Disco Recording. Subir Nandi was the first to sing in the movie ‘Surjo Grohon’, directed by Abdus Samad in 1976. He has won the National Film Award five times for playback in films.
Saleh Ahmed
Actor Saleh Ahmed died at Apollo Hospital in the capital on April 24 at 2:33pm aged 83 years. Oyomoy, Kothao Keu Nei and Humayn Ahmed’s many dramas have been graced by the acting of Saleh Ahmed. He has also acted in Humayun Ahmed’s ‘Amar Achhe Jal’, ‘Srabon Megher Din-e’, ‘Aguner Paroshmoni’.
Shahnaz Rahmatullah
Shahnaz Rahmatullah died of heart attack at home in Baridhara, Dhaka on March 23. Shahnaz Rahmatullah has sung for 50 long years. In the BBC survey, Shahnaz Rahmatullah has four songs on the list of the top 20 Bengali songs of all time. These are—the lyrics of Khan Ataur Rahman in the film ‘Abar Tora Manush Ho’ song titled ‘Ek Nodi Rokto Periyechhi’, Anwar Parvez’s tune ‘Joy Bangla Banglar Joy’ in Gazi Mazharul Anwar’s lyrics, ‘Ek Bar Jeete De Na Amar Chotto Sonargaye’ and ‘Ektara Tui Desher Katha Balre Ebar Bal’.

Lyricist Ahmed Kaiser
Ahmed Kaiser breathed his last at his residence in the North Charkhali village of Sadar Union of Galachipa upazila of Patuakhali on Tuesday 2 April at 8:05am. At the time of his death, the lyricist was 70 years old. He is the lyricist of the popular song, ‘Pagol Mon Mon-re, Mon Keno Eto Katha Bole’.
Comedian Anis
Anisur Rahman Anis died on April 28 at the age of 78. He died at his residence of Tikatuli in the capital. Anis made his debut as a comedian in a film titled ‘Bishkanya’. But the film was not released. The first film starring Anis was released in 1963, ‘Eito Jibon’ directed by Zillur Rahman. He had been acting since then. He had been acting since the founding of Bangladesh Television. In the play ‘Nabab Sirajddaula’, he played a leading role of Golam Hossain. He has acted in more than two and a half hundred films.
Saiful Azam Kashem
He died at the Apollo Hospital in the capital on Monday March 11. Saiful Azam Kashem was one of the greatest film directors and producers. Some of his favorite films directed by him are ‘Antarale’, ‘Bourani’, ‘Shanai’, ‘Dhan Doulat’, ‘Duniyadari’, ‘Halchal’, ‘Bharasha’, ‘Shohag’, ‘Ghar Sangsar’, ‘Shamir Adesh’, ‘Tyajyaputra’.
Hasibul Islam Mizan
Hasibul Islam Mizan died on April 18 at the age of 62. He was the director of the film ‘Amar Shapno Tumi’ which starred Shakib Khan and Shabnur. Right after this the director made ‘Kapal’, ‘Janmo’, ‘Hridoye Achho Tumi’.
Kala Aziz
Kala Aziz, a well known face of Bengali films, died of diabetes and kidney disease at his home in Kawla area of Dhaka on 23 November. Aziz had acted as the villain’s accomplice in several hundred Bengali films. He has acted in numerous films over the decades. He worked in films with Dipjol, Misha Sawdagar and Mizu Ahmed in particular.
Mahfuzur Rahman Khan
Cinematographer Mahfuzur Rahman Khan died on Thursday, December 6, at the United Hospital in Dhaka at the age of 70. Earlier, he was admitted to the hospital on November 25 due to ill health. Mahfuzur Rahman Khan started his work as a professional cinematographer in 1972. He worked with legendary film directors like Alamgir Kabir, Alamgir Kumkum, Humayun Ahmed, Shibli Sadiq. Especially he was the cinematographer in most of Humayun Ahmed’s films. Notable among his films are ‘Amar Janmobhumi’, ‘Obhijaa’, ‘Mahanayak’, ‘Chapa Dangar Bou’, ‘Dhaka 86’, ‘Antore Antore’, ‘Poka Makorer Ghar Bashoti’, ‘Anando Asru’, ‘Srabon Megher Din-e’, ‘Dui Duyari’, ‘Chandro Katha’, ‘Nondito Narake’, ‘Hajar Bachhor Dhore’, ‘Britter Baire’, ‘GHetuputra Kamola’.
Humayun Sadhu
On September 29, Humayun Sadhu was admitted to Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in Dhaka after suffering from a hemorrhagic disease. He recovered from the treatment and was admitted to the Square Hospital again on the night of October 20. He died on October 25 while under treatment. He was buried in the adjoining cemetery of Metal Rahim Mosque in Tejgaon area of Dhaka. Humayun Sadhu started his career taking the hand of Mostafa Sarwar Farooqi. He has gained recognition in the audience through his acting, he has been praised for making dramas.
Shahadat Hossain Sujan
He was admitted to a hospital in the capital on the morning of December 15 when he fell ill. He died while undergoing treatment around three in the afternoon. He has worked as an assistant to TV personality Afzal Hossain for a long time. He has worked for a long time as a director in Sisimpur.
Prithwi Raj
He died at the City hospital in the capital on Sunday, December 15 at 4:30 pm.
Khalid Hossain
Khalid Hossain, a leading artiste, researcher, vocalist and Nazrul Sangeet singer and Ekushey Padak winer died at Coronary Care Unit (CCU) at National Heart Institute and Hospital in the capital on Wednesday, May 22, at 10:15 pm.
At the time of his death, he was 84 years old. Six albums have been released by Khalid Hossain where he sang Nazrul Sangeet. There is also a modern song album and 12 albums of Islamic song.
