Relief rain in the capital city

The residents of Dhaka heaved a sigh of relief after rain swept over different parts of the capital on Saturday night. 

The city dwellers have been experiencing heatwave throughout the week as mercury rose close to 40 degrees Celsius. 

Although the weather was sunny in the morning on Sunday, it became cloudy before noon. As a result, there was light rain in several areas including Magbazar, Rampura, Badda, Bangla Motor, Dhaka University area, Dhanmondi. However, it didn’t rain at all in many areas.

The light rain brought relief after days of consecutive heat waves.

The meteorological office said on Sunday that it rained very little at noon. However, the rainfall may increase a little in a day or two. According to the Meteorological Department, low pressure lies over West Bengal and the adjoining areas and the seasonal low lies over South Bay. As a result, thunder showers accompanied by gusty wind is likely to occur at Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Chittagong, Khulna, Barisal and some parts of Dhaka division. Scattered hailstorms are also likely to occur in some places. 

The maximum rainfall from Saturday to Sunday has been recorded 37 mm in Khepupara. 

Meanwhile, the country’s maximum temperature was recorded in Khulna at 36.8°c on Sunday. Among the divisional cities, Dhaka recorded 35.5°C, Mymensingh 29.8°C, Chittagong 33.8°C, Sylhet 30°C, Rajshahi 31.5°C, Rangpur 29.6°C and the temperature in Barisal was recorded at 33°C.
