Noakhali Science and Technology University Journalists Association (NSTUJA) on Monday demanded immediate release of Manik Raihan Bappy, former president of Rajshahi University Press Club who was arrested in a case filed under the ICT Act.
The NSTUJA demand was made through media statement signed by its president Abdur Rahim and General Secretary Mizanur Rahman Shabuj.
It said that there are shocked at the arrest of the journalist and it poses threat to journalism on the university campuses as well as independent journalism.
Condemning the arrest, the NSTUJA leaders said they fear that such incident would narrow scope of journalism on campuses.
They demand immediate withdrawal of the case against Bappi and his unconditional release as well as repeal of the laws hindering journalism.
