A press conference was held demanding justice for the murder of Fatema Begum, 26, a mother of two, of Patgam upazila of Lalmonirhat by the victim’s parents on Sunday.  They demanded a re-examination of the body for proper investigation of their daughter’s murder at their residence in Dwani Pittifata village of Goddimari union under Hattibandha upazila.

According to them, they married their daughter off to Abdul Razzak, son of Kobed Ali of Enginpara area of Patgram upazila 13 years ago.  On November 11, 2018, when Abdul Razzaq was not at home, her father in law along with her two brother in law strangled Fatema to death. Later, they hanged her body on a tree and tried to disguise the murder as suicide.

However, no evidence or reason were found for her to commit suicide, they claimed.  Tamiz Uddin, father of the victim, filed a murder case with Lalmonirhat Court in this connection. However, according to the autopsy report that came out after a month, it was a case of suicide.

The case is currently under trial by the High Court. The family, helpless, appealed to the Prime Minister seeking justice and re-examination of the victim’s body to ensure punishment for the real culprits.
