In a bid to ensure better life for the street children the government will set up rehabilitation centres in every district and upazila across the country. State minister for Ministry of Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira said this while addressing a programme on 'Unprivileged and street children’s gathering, discussion and prize giving ceremony' on occasion of observing the International Children's Day at Sishu Academy in the capital.

The programme was organized by the 'Street Children Rehabilitation Programme' of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs where the minister also urged everyone to come forward to make the plan a success. There will be no street children in the country and all children will live a normal life. Since 2016, under the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs has been running two rehabilitation centres for the homeless children at Kawran Bazar and Kamalapur and eight schools in the capital, the minister added.

Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs Kamrun Nahar said everyone including other government organisations as well as non-government organizations should come forward to rehabilitate the street children and provide them mental, educational and vocational training so that they become self-dependant individuals.

Sishu Academy chairperson Lucky Inam, Dr Abul Hossain, project director of the Street Children Rehabilitation Programme, Mahbubul Haque, chairman of the Disadvantage Adolescent Working Forum, among others, spoke at the occasion. Following the discussion state minister for Ministry of Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira distributed prize among the winning children in various competitions.
