Reforms underway in jute sector targeting int’l market

The government has taken effective steps to reform the jute sector considering the demand of the international market, said Textile and Jute Secretary Lokman Hossain Mia, reports BSS.
“The reform process was underway in the jute sector to meet the international market…our country was working to diversify the use of environmental-friendly jute products, increase the production and marketing by producing charcoal from jute sticks, composite jute textiles, jute leaf drinks, jute geo-textiles and polythene alternative ‘golden bags’,” he said.
He said this while meeting with newly appointed Ambassador to Uzbekistan Md Jahangir Alam at the conference room of the Ministry here, said a release.
He said that there is a growing global interest and consensus on the use of natural fibers as an alternative to the environmental catastrophe caused by the overuse of polythene and plastics. He called upon the newly appointed Ambassador to work for restoring the glory of jute in the world by increasing the production and use of jute versatile environmentally friendly new products.
About 600 entrepreneurs are producing 262 types of visually pleasing jute products, most of these are being exported.
Various fairs will be organized abroad to popularize the versatile jute products. The fair of versatile jute products will help in establishing more communication between the producers, users and foreign buyers of jute products.
