Information Minister and Awami League joint general secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud said, "It is necessary to find out whether LDP secretary general Redwan Ahmed shot and injured Awami League workers in response to the watermelon attack in Comilla on the instructions of the BNP secretary general or any other top leader."

He was responding to a question from reporters at Rangpur Circuit House on Tuesday afternoon. Dr Hasan said, "The incident that the LDP secretary general has caused in Comilla is very sad and disgusting. Our party workers gathered there and he went there. He turned his shotgun on himself when apprehended by a police officer on the porch of the house where the shootings took place.” The minister said, "When Palestinian children hurled stones at Israeli forces, they fired back. In Comilla he did not throw a stone, he threw a watermelon, in response to which Redwan Ahmed fired. BNP general secretary Mirza Fakhrul has justified Redwan Ahmed's firing and he has said many other things. Now it needs to be ascertained whether Redwan Ahmed fired on the instructions of the BNP secretary general or any other top leader. The incident is under investigation, the truth will come out through proper investigation and action will be taken against those who are found guilty.”

Regarding the recent statements of Transparency International Bangladesh-TIB, Hasan Mahmud said, “Recently, it was seen that an incident took place at midnight with the TTE of the Railways. In the morning, the TIB issued a statement without any inquiry. Now I can't find any difference between TIB and Rizvi Ahmed, just like he writes a statement before something happens, TIBO makes a statement before anything happens.”

Later, the Information Minister attended the triennial conference of Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station. The conference was inaugurated by Rangpur Metropolitan Awami League President Safiur Rahman Safi at Rangpur Town Hall under the chairmanship of Awami League Vice President Mohammad Kaiser Rashed Khan. Awami League Presidium Member Md Shahjahan Khan MP as Chief Guest, HN Ashikur Rahman MP as Special Guest, Organizing Secretary Sakhawat Hossain Shafiq, Central Member Ed. Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia and Ed Safura Begum Rooney and Rangpur Metropolitan Awami League General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal addressed the conference as keynote speakers.
