The youth wing of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society has assisted police to manage traffic and provided Eid gifts to doctors and nurses as part of the World Red Cross Red Crescent Day.

The day was celebrated on May 8, the birthday of Red Cross co-founder Jean-Henry Dunant.

This year the youth wing of the Red Crescent took a three-day programme.

Activities include assisting traffic police in reducing traffic congestion at various traffic points in the capital Dhaka, providing Eid gift items to doctors and nurses in charge of covid units, voluntary blood collection campaigns and distribution of cooked food among floating and low-income people in the capital.

They were deployed at six traffic points in Dhaka – Moghbazar, Sonargoan, Asadgate, Motijheel, Gulshan 1 and Shahbagh.

They distributed gifts to 500 doctors and nurses at the Covid-dedicated units of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, National Institute of ENT and Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital on Sunday.

The blood donation camp was organised at the Wari area in old Dhaka.

On Monday, they will implement the programme at Uttara and Banani area.
