Bangladesh Red Crescent Society has undertaken a plan to provide food assistance to some 75,000 helpless and low-income families across the country affected due to spread of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), reports BSS.
The 68 Red Crescent units covering the capital and the 64 districts would provide food assistance like rice, pulse, flower, edible oil, sugar and salt among the selected most affected families which depend on daily wages. Besides, the Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College and Hospital, Sylhet Red Crescent Mother and Child Care Hospital, Chattogram Jamison Red Crescent Hospital are being prepared for providing treatment facilities to those who would be affected by COVID-19.
The Red Crescent authorities said if the number of coronavirus patient rises in the country in large numbers, then isolation units would be launched in these hospitals subject to the approval from the government, said a press release.
The Society said they are continuing various awareness campaigns across the country to fight against and prevent the spread of this deadly virus. So far the Red Crescent units have distributed some 5 lakh awareness leaflets, sprayed disinfectant liquid, conducted campaign through loudspeakers and installed basins for washing hands.
A coordination meeting of the society was held today at its conference room to review the operations of the society and framing its future operations strategy with its Vice Chairman and IFRC Governing Board Member Dr Habibe Millat, MP in the chair.
Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Secretary General M Firoz Salahuddin, Deputy Secretary General M Rafiqul Islam, and other directors and members were present. After the meeting, Red Crescent Society Vice Chairman Habibe Millat coming into Facebook live exchanged views with the countrywide volunteers and thus gave them necessary directives.
Meanwhile, as part of its series of operations, the volunteers of Red Crescent Society sprayed germicide liquid in various parts of the capital including at some satellite tv channels. Besides, the volunteers are also spraying disinfectant across the country, distributing leaflets, motivating the common people to maintain social distancing and creating awareness among people through loudspeakers to stay at home during these General holidays.
