While age-group athletics and swimming competitions are typically held separately, both events are currently underway. The athletics competition, which commenced on Saturday, concluded on Sunday.
On Saturday, the second day of the athletics competition witnessed two new national records. In the girls' 100m hurdles (Mocha category), Tasnia Hossain from BKSP blazed through the race, setting a new record with a time of 15.74 seconds. This surpasses the previous record of 16.41 seconds set by Rukhsana Begum of Noakhali in 2019. Similarly, Smriti Akta of Kishoreganj District Sports Association shattered the 800m girls' record with a time of 2:27.55s, eclipsing the previous record of 2:27.86s set by China Khatun of Rajbari District Sports Association in 2002.
Meanwhile, the first day of the Mirpur age-group swimming competition saw an impressive display of four new national records. BKSP's Fatiha Mahtab established a new benchmark in the girls' 100m
backstroke with a time of 1 minute 20.6 seconds at the Syed Nazrul Islam Swimming Complex
on Saturday.
The team's dominance continued with Annie Akhtar setting a record time of 2 minutes 54.59 seconds in the 200m butterfly (youth group), while Tofail secured victory in the youth 200m butterfly with a time of 2 minutes 16.64 seconds. Adding to BKSP's success, Zooey Akhter clinched the gold medal in the girls' 400m freestyle, setting a new national record of 5 minutes 20.83 seconds.
The auspicious opening ceremony of the swimming competition was officially declared open by Bangladesh Swimming Federation President and Navy Chief Admiral M Nazmul Hasan. The ceremony also welcomed Tarfdar Md. Ruhul Amin, Vice President of the Federation and Managing Director of Saif Powertech, as the guest of honor. MB Saif, the Federation's general secretary, presided over the event.
