Recognition of seven martyrs of 1971 as freedom fighters demanded

A human chain was formed in front of the mass grave of Water Development Board premises at Rupganj in Narail town on Tuesday demanding recognition of seven martyrs as freedom fighters. The human chain programme was organized by their family members.

Martyred freedom fighter family member and District Woman Awami League General Secretary, Sadar Upazila Vice Chairman Ismat Ara, lecturer of Government Victoria College Sajjad Hossain Tipu, martyred freedom fighter Kaijer Rahman’s wife Hosneara Kaijer, Kaijer Rahman’s son Goljer Hossain Tutul, lecturer Tarafadar Rezaul Islam spoke among others at the time.

The speakers said that during the War of Liberation, the Pakistani occupation forces with the help of the then sub-divisional peace committee’s president Maulana Solaiman captured eight freedom fighters from Tularampur village in Sadar upazila and buried them in Narail Water Development Board after taking inhuman torture. They immediately demanded that the names of those martyrs be included in the list of martyr freedom fighters who achieved independence through supreme sacrifice

Family members of martyred freedom fighters sources said, on 17 July early in morning, Pakistani occupation forces with their local associate Razakars were captured then Narail sub-divisional AL organizing secretary freedom fighters Tarafder Atiar Rahman, Abdus Salam Tarafdar, Altaf Hossain Tarafdar, Rafiqul Islam Tarafdar, Mahatab Uddin Tafdar, Mokbul Hossain Sikder Kaijer Rahman and Mokam Molla. On July 20 early in morning Pakistani occupation forces brutally killed them and buried at BWDB premises. Of them Rafiqul Islam Tarafdar was recognition a freedom fighter. Rest seven martyred freedom fighters were not recognized till now.

After the human chain a memorandum given to Narail deputy commissioner demanding recognition remaining seven persons as a martyred freedom fighter.
