About Tk 400 crore of Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) will be saved with some new decisions taken regarding the alignment of elevated expressway from Barik Building to Bandar Bhaban, said the CDA sources.

At an emergency meeting of the CDA, the authorities concerned decided to adjust the distance of the span so that no pillar of the elevated expressway from Lalkhanbazar to Shah Amanat International Airport falls at the port gates.

At the same time, the decision to construct the flyover by placing pillars in the middle of the main road as per the design sent to the approved DPP from Barik Building to Saltgola has been upheld.

It has also been decided to set up soundproof high fencing to ensure safety on the side, to coordinate Chittagong Port and CMP Traffic Department for smooth traffic management during construction and to make temporary shift to CPAR gates for truck-lorries plying at the existing gates of the port.

These decisions regarding the alignment of the flyover will not require the acquisition of about 4 acres of land in Chittagong Port and about two and a half acres of land for the general public and will not require any compensation for the installation of the general public. This will save CDA found of around Tk 400 crore.

These decisions were taken at an emergency meeting chaired by Chittagong Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral M Shahjahan on Monday afternoon to finalize the alignment of the elevated expressway from Lalkhan Bazar to the airport (part from Barik Building to Bandar Bhaban).

Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Zahirul Alam Dhobas and Bangladesh Navy Commander Chittagong Naval Area Rear Admiral M Mozammel Haque were present at the meeting held at the Board Room of Bandar Bhaban.

During the meeting, emphasis was laid on the construction of CDA Elevated Expressway in the interest of import-export and keeping the country's economy afloat so that the movement of cargo trucks and lorries at the port would be uninterrupted and the operational activities of the port would not be disrupted in any way.

The meeting was attended by members of Chittagong Port Authority, Head of Department, CDA Chief Engineer, Project Director, Project Manager of Contracting Company M/s Max-Rankin JV.

ECNEC approved the construction of an elevated expressway from Lalkhan Bazar to the airport at a cost of about Tk 3500 crore in July 2017  About 1.5 years later, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the construction work on February 24, 2019.
