Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for Real Madrid winger Rodrygo in the summerf transfer window, with the attack undergoing somewhat of a restructuring. The 24-year-old faces fierce competition for a starting place at the Bernabau, prompting suggestions that he could be on the move before the end of the window.
Liverpool is one of the possible destinations being spoken about in the Spanish media. It’s not the first time that the Reds have been linked with an interest, with the player choosing to join Real Madris over a move to Anfield as a teenager.
The now 24-year-old would have been hoping to impress new Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso this summer, during both the Club World Cup and preparations for the new season. But he has so far found his game time limited.
He made just one start in the Club World Cup, in the club’s opening game of the tournament, and came off the bench just twice more. After a break, he has now returned to pre-season training with the club.
Real Madrid were in pre-season action on Friday with a behind-closed-doors match against Leganes. However, despite being back in training Rodrygo was again omitted from the starting lineup, with the team coming out as 4-1 winners. It is reported that he did make it onto the pitch as a substitute but it is unknown how long for.
Real Madrid return to training on Sunday before facing WSG Tirol in Innsbruck on Tuesday night.
The decision to leave him out of the lineup comes amid reports of interest in the winger from Saudi Arabia. According to Marca. Saudi teams have been showing an interest in the Brazilian, but any approaches have been knocked back by Real Madrid.
Liverpool are not the only English club to be linked with an interest in Rodrygo this summer with Arsenal and Tottenham also credited with an interest. Reports suggest that while Real are open to letting the player leave this summer, they will demand a fee of around €90 million (£77.9m).
