State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Simeen Hussain Rimi here Sunday called for reading books to enhance awareness and become enlightened citizens for building a knowledge-based society.
She compared books to the weapons which could drive away evil people from the society. "Reading books makes a man enlightened and it (reading books) increases activities of human brain," Rimi added.
The State Minster said this while speaking at a prize distribution ceremony for Reading Books at Latapata Bazar in Kapasia upazila of the district.
Tajuddin Ahmad and Syeda Zohra Tajuddin Memorial Foundation organised the function.
Former state minister for Home Affairs Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj also spoke, among others. He urged all students to read the autobiography of famous people.
Parvej Ahmed and Rajib Hossain of the foundation were present on the occasion.
