Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) will implement three more uplift projects aimed at enhancing civic amenities side by side with ensuring an eco-friendly habitable atmosphere through various infrastructural developments.
The burial plaque of Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman, one of the four national leaders, will be built in the Kadirganj area in the city aimed at creating scopes of knowledge about the life, works and devotion of the national leader.
The city corporation will implement the project with an estimated cost of around Tk30.77 crore which will help conserve the history and tradition of the region.
RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton revealed this while addressing a views-sharing meeting with engineers and others concerned related to the city's ongoing Tk2,993-crore project titled Integrated Urban Infrastructure Development in Rajshahi City at the city bhaban conference hall on Thursday.
He said they have planned to conserve 22 natural water bodies under a project titled Natural Water Bodies Conservation and Development in Rajshahi City in order to retain its surface water resources to protect the environment from further degradation.
With the intervention of the Tk1,209.13 crore scheme, embankments of the water bodies will be concretised with retaining walls besides necessary excavation and re-excavation.
In addition to benches and walkways, concrete stairs will be constructed in all the ponds to make them attractive.
"We have also adopted a project styled Modernization of Rajshahi city's Waste Management involving around Tk1,465.18 crore," he said, adding that 103 acres of land will be acquired for implementation of the project.
The scheme has provisions for waste collection and removal in modern ways, construction of wastewater treatment plants, faecal sludge treatment and recycling plants.
Mayor Liton said they have been implementing massive infrastructure development works in the city under the Tk2,993-crore project at present.
They are going to construct five more flyovers with the main thrust of the overall development of the metropolis by freeing it from traffic congestion.
The flyovers will be constructed on Haragram Natunpara Railway Crossing, Rajshahi Court Station Railway Crossing, Bilsimla Railway Crossing, Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman Railway Crossing, Bhadra Railway Crossing and Mohanpur Railway Crossing.
In addition to the five flyovers, various infrastructure development works are being implemented under the project scheduled to be completed by June 2024.
A total of ten foot-over bridges will also be constructed.
He said Sheikh Russel Shishu Park is being established in the Chhotobangram area at a cost of around Tk4.43 crore.
Liton said the Rajshahi city will get a new look upon the successful implementation of the mega project.
"We are working relentlessly to make the city green and habitable," he added.
Mayor Liton urged all the engineers and others concerned to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty for the successful implementation of all the development projects so that the city dwellers can derive total benefits from those.
