Sheikh Russel Children Park set up on 6.5 bighas of land at Chhoto Bongram area of Rajshahi city was opened for all on the occasion of Sheikh Russel Day on Wednesday.
Member of Standing Committee of AL and RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton inaugurated the Sheikh Russel Park by releasing balloons and festoons and the slashing of cakes.
More than 1,000 children and their guardians visited the park on the day of opening.
AHM Khairuzzaman Liton in his speech during the opening of the park said, he would like to set up several such parks with green zones in various wards of the city in future so that the children can have their mental flourishment by visiting and playin in these parks.
He said that it was possible to construct the park for the contribution of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He has also allocated a project amounting Tk 2,800 crore for RCC and another large project estimated at Tk 45,000 has also been prepared and the project will also be approved if Allah wishes, he added.
Constructed at a cost 11 crore 33 lakh, the Sheikh Russel Park contains a spectacular gate with the photo of Sheikh Russel, boundary walls, artificial lake, walkways, amphitheatre, coffee shop, administrative building, slipper, various rides, public toilets and spectacular lighting system.
The inaugural function was attended and addressed, among others, by War-19 Councillor Touhidul Haque Sumon, Ward 12 Councillor Shariful Islam Babu, Councillors Rajab Ali, Kamal Hossain, Russel Zaman, Anowar Hossain Anar, Belal Ahmed, Nizam Ul Azim, Alafun Nessa, Sultana Sagorika, freedom fighter Shahab Uddin, Shamsun Naher Mukti, Subrata Kumar Sarker, Gourav Dey, Iqbal Hossain, Shahbab Ahmed and Shakil Hossain.
