The government is going to enforce strict restrictions across the country for one week from Monday due to the deteriorating coronavirus pandemic situation in the country. In such a situation, the Recruiting Agencies’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (RAWAB) has urged the government not to stop international flights in the interest of the expatriate workers.
They made the call in a written statement signed by RAWAB president Fakhrul Islam on Saturday.
“We have already learnt from various media reports that due to the gradual deterioration of the coronavirus situation in the country, strict restrictions are going to be imposed across the country from June 28. We welcome this decision of the government that has been taken in the interest of the people”, said the statement.
However, it added that thousands of workers are waiting for their scheduled flight, confirming their visas, air tickets, insurance and non-refundable hotel bookings for quarantine. Thousands of workers have had their visas stamped, and many have had their exit clearances (smart cards) completed.
“In this situation, considering the overall interest of the country and everyone concerned, including workers, we urge the authorities concerned not to stop international flights in any way”, they said.
They also said that this sector should be kept outside the purview of lockdown considering it as an emergency service.
