Rate of new Covid cases falling, but deaths still high

The daily positivity rate of Covid-19 out of the tested samples is failing in Bangladesh, but the deaths remained high as usual.

In the last 24 hours till 8am of Sunday, 2,922 new cases were detected by testing 21,922 samples. The positivity rate was 13.33 percent.

This rate was over 20 percent in recent weeks when the government imposed lockdown.

However, during the last 24 hours, the health directorate recorded 101 more deaths due to Covid-19. With that, the total death count rose to 11,053 in Bangladesh.

On April 20, the number of daily fatalities dropped below 100 after a record number of daily deaths in four consecutive days since April 16.

The country's highest-ever deaths from Covid-19 were reported on April 19 when 112 people died from the new pandemic virus.

The Covid-19 death rate now stands at 1.48 percent in Bangladesh since March 18 last year when the first death was recorded. The recovery rate was 88.21 percent.

Total 745,322 people have been confirmed to have Covid-19 in Bangladesh since March 8 last year when the first three cases were detected.
