Rash Purnima Puja begins in Sundarbans Nov 25

The Department of Forest (West) has taken special security measures at Alorkol in Dublar Char near the Sundarbans as the three days Rash Purnima Puja (Holy Bath) will begin on November 25.

The authorities have imposed a ban on carrying all kinds of meat except chicken as well as fireworks and explosives, any domestic weapons and firearms.

The devotees can travel to five selected points at day time during the Puja, said Md Abu NaserMohsin Hossain, Divisional Forest Officer (West Division) of the Sundarbans.

The forest department also had a meeting with the district administration to stop any sort of poaching at any cost, he added.

Use of loudspeakers, any electronic device and carrying of firearms and ammunitions and travelling at night are completely prohibited, he also said.

All preparations have been completed to celebrate the Rash Purnima Puja, Hossain said.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Coast Guard, Bangladesh Navy and patrol teams of the forest department will be in action for ensuring security of the devotees in Pashur, Shewla, Bhola and Shibsa rivers from November 25 to 27, the forest official said.

The forest department has selected five river routes from Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira and adjacent Barguna for the pilgrims to reach the Puja venue.

Visitors will have to finish all their activities and leave the forest area before sunset on November 27, Hossain said.

Every river vessels has been asked to report at the control room set up by the forest division at Alorkol in Sundarbans.

The pilgrims were also asked to carry national identity card and certificate of Union Parishad chairman.
