A rare species of monitor lizard was rescued in the Badshaghona area of Cox’s Bazar municipality by Nazrul Islam, a local leader of the student organisation Chhatra Dal, with the help of local residents.
The reptile, weighing approximately 14kg and measuring around four feet in length, was safely handed over to the Cox’s Bazar Forest Department on Saturday afternoon.
Md Habibul Haque, Cox’s Bazar Range Officer, stated, “The healthy monitor lizard will be released back into its natural habitat. Such initiatives help raise awareness about wildlife conservation.”
Nazrul Islam added, “Every creature plays a vital role in our ecosystem. It is our moral duty to protect, not harm, endangered or wild animals.
I urge everyone to act responsibly and support wildlife preservation.”
Local officials and community members were present during the handover.
