A baby hornbill of rare species was rescued from Boalmari of Faridpur on Wednesday.

Faisal Matin Siju, son of Maklukar Rahman of Andharkotha area of the municipality, handed over the baby hornbill to Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sabbir Ahmed and forester Abu Bakar Siddiqui on Wednesday afternoon. The bird is handed over through a pledge, in which Faisal Matin mentioned that he had bought the hornbill from a person four months ago. He bought the bird because he did not know the Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Act. After learning about this law, he handed over the bird to the administration.

Abu Bakar Siddique, forester of the Faridpur Social Forest Department, said that hornbill is a rare species of bird. It is about three feet high.

They are commonly found in the Assam Province of India and in Khagrachhari, Bandarban of Bangladesh. They survive by eating grapes, apples and mountain fruits and kept by rich people.
