Rickshaw puller returns currency of Tk. 20 lakh to owner

A rickshaw puller in Bogura has set a rare example of honesty by returning a bagful of currency notes of Taka. 20 lakh to its owner who left the bag on his rickshaw forgotten. 

According to sources, Rajib Prasad, a fertiliser trader rode on a rickshsaw from Jaleswaritola of Bogura town at about 7:00 am and deport at Satmatha. During leaving the rickshaw, he forgot to take a bagful of money worth Taka 20 lakh which he left on the rickshaw. Later on, finding the bag missing, Rajib Prasad filed a complaint with the local police station.

Meanwhile, by getting the bagful of money, rickshaw puller Lal Mia, 55, son of late Momtaz Uddin of Malgram Madhyapara area, also started to search for the owner of the bag. Not finding the owner of the bag, Lal Mia kept the bag with money at his room and restart to search for the owner of the bag. Meanwhile, by watching the photo of the rickshaw puller through CC camera, police managed to collect the identity and the mobile number of rickshaw puller Lal Mia from other rickshaw pullers and contacted him over the mobile phone. 

Being questioned, rickshaw puller Lal Mia informed the police that the lost bag with the money has been kept safely at his house and in presence of Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan, Superintendent of Police, Lal Mia handed over the money to its owner Rajib Prasad.   

Rajib Prasad, son of Din Nath Prasad of Ranabagaha village of Nandigram upazila informed, he used to live in a rented house at Jaelwaritola in Bogura. 

He rented a rickshaw  to come Nandigram bus stand at Satmatha with the bagful of money and forgot to take the bag during departing from the rickshaw. Later on the rickshaw puller returned him the money with the help of police. 

He further informed, he drew the money from the bank to purchase fertiliser. 

He also awarded the rickshaw puller Taka 50,000 as a reward of his honesty.

SM Bodiuzzaman, Officer-in-charge of Bogura informed, after contacting the rickshaw puller over his mobile phone, the money was handed over, in presence of ASP Gaziur Rahman and DSB Inspector Asik Iqbal, to the owner at around 11-00 am.
