Shibdighi Hat Bazar of Ranisankail Upazila has been shifted to Sheikh Russell Mini Stadium in Municipal town like Kalibari Bazar of Thakurgaon to maintain social distancing to prevent the outbreak of coronavirus.
On Tuesday morning, at the initiative of the Upazila administration, the various shops, including fish and meat, were shifted to Sheikh Russell Mini Stadium. The hut will run from 10 am to 5 pm daily.
The special feature of the Hat is that each vendor is stationed at least six feet away from one another to maintain the social distancing. Several traders, including raw materials businessman Abul Hashem, Babul Hossain, Nazrul Islam, said, “We could not maintain social distance due to lack of space. Now that the Hat has been shifted we are able to sit at a safe distance from one another and the buyers are also being able to shop safely.”
Municipal Mayor Alamgir Sarkar said, “Traders used to sit and sell goods at Shibdighi Municipal Market. Buyers used to rush there to buy the goods. Therefore, it was not possible to maintain social distance. We thank the Upazila administration for transferring the administration hut to the stadium for security reasons.”
Upazila Executive Officer Mousumi Afrida said the decision has been taken to shift all the huts of Ranisankail upazila in open aread in order to maintain social distancing in the market. This will greatly reduce the risk of being infected with coronavirus.
