Rangpur Riders retain top spot

Shakib Hassan displayed an all-round performance as Rangpur Riders retained their top spot in the point table of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) cricket when they just trounced Duranto Dhaka by 60 runs on Tuesday.

Held at the Shere-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Rangpur Riders kept their winning streak over Duranto Dhaka also in their successive meetings inside eight days.

However, on the day, Duranto Dhaka won the toss and opted to field and asked Rangpur Riders to bat first.

Shakib AL Hassan the ace all-rounder of the Bangladesh national team, shined with both and bow when he scored a rapid 34 off 20 balls, claimed three wickets for 16 runs in his four overs spells.     

Rangpur with the combined efforts from all their batters piled up piled up a challenging total 175 runs for Duranto Dhaka to chase.

But the bottom sides of table Duranto Dhaka aiming to chase the challenging target could manage onely 115 runs before being bundled out.

However, Rony Talukder and Babar Azam played a quick 67 runs inning at the opening stand by 7.4 overs and riding on the good foundation the second wicket partners, Babar and Shakiob Al Hassan scored another fifty runs partnership from 43 deliveries.

Rony Talukder, who was flopped in his last four matches with scoring only 37 runs – 5, 6, 15 and 11 against Fortune Barishal, Sylhet Strikers, Khulna Tigers and Duranto Dhaka respectively, looked get back him on the day to score 39 runs off 24 balls.

The former national colour in his 39 runs innings hit six fours and one six.

Babar Azam, after losing his opening part Rony Talukder, though was a bit slow but kept the side intact with scoring 47 off 43 balls when he struck five boundaries.  

After losing Babar Azam, one down Shakib Al Hassan took the responsibility and scored 34 runs from 20 deliveries with hammering three sixes and a four. 

Shakib Al Hassan and Azmatullah Omarzai were out in quick succession as Ragnpur reduced to 131 for four and at that stage it looked the table toppers would not goa far. But the captain Nurul Hassan along with Mohammad Nabi scored a valuable unbeaten 44 runs from 20 deliveries. 

Nurul hassan scored 16 off 10 balls when Nabi cracked 29 off 16 balls, as Rangpur accumulated 175 runs. 

Duranto Dhaka, who could win only one match out of their previous five matches, chasing to the challenging target saw were going through enormous disaster when they lost the first wicket on two runs. Dhaka then reduced to four for 57 runs after playing more than half of their innings (11.2) and could not get rid of the troubles, as finally their innings was ended on 115 runs by 18 overs and Rangpur secured their fifth win out of even outings.
