Rangpur division recorded 9.58 percent Covid-19 positivity rate as 16 fresh cases were diagnosed after testing 167 samples at two laboratories on Wednesday.
Health officials said the Covid-19 pandemic situation is improving fast as the number of positive cases is decreasing daily amid declining positivity rate in the last one week.
Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 10.32 percent on Tuesday, 7.22 percent on Monday, 12.30 percent on Sunday, 14.57 percent on Saturday, 10.82 percent on Friday and 19.74 percent on Thursday last in the division.
Among the 16 new patients, three were reported positive after testing 73 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) at the 4.11 percent positivity rate today.
"All three new patients are hailing from different areas in Rangpur city," said Principal of RpMC Professor Dr Bimal Chandra Roy.
On the other hand, 13 new patients were reported positive after testing 94 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur at the 13.83 percent positivity rate today.
"The 13 new patients include five from Dinajpur, seven from Panchagarh and one from Thakurgaon districts," said Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain.
Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said told the national nes agency that the total number of Covid-19 patients reached 63,954 as 16 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.
"The district-wise break up of total 63,954 patients include 14,905 of Rangpur, 4,401 Panchagarh, 5,464 of Nilphamari, 3,270 of Lalmonirhat, 4,970 of Kurigram, 8,566 of Thakurgaon, 16,890 of Dinajpur and 5,488 of Gaibandha in the division," he added.
