Rangpur people smart from price hike

In Rangpur, besides vegetables, the price of flour has also increased. In addition, the price of rice in the retail market has increased by two to three rupees per kg in a week. In the retail market, a liter of bottled soybean is being sold at Tk 200 as compared to last week and open soybean is being sold at Tk 200 to Tk 210. All in all, the common people of Rangpur are frustrated about the market price.

The prices of broiler chickens have come down a bit during the week. Last week it was sold at 165 to 170 rupees but now it is being sold at 140 to 150 taka. Besides, at the retail level, Pakistani chickens are being sold at Tk 280-290 per kg and domestic chickens at Tk 490 to Tk 500 per kg. All kinds of fish are being sold in the market at the same price as last week. However, with the increase, beef is being sold at Tk 650 to Tk 700 and mutton at Tk 800 to Tk 900 per kg.

At the retail level, tomatoes increased by five taka per kg to 45 to 50, thin eggplants by 50 taka, cucumbers by five taka to 20 to 25 taka, dried chillies increased from 350 taka to 400 taka, glassware increased by 10 taka per 30 to 35 taka, potatoes increased by 30 taka. 35 to 40 taka, 10 to 35 to 40 taka, 10 taka to 90 to 100 taka, 10 to 30 to 35 taka more than last week 18 and potatoes are being sold at 35 taka, an increase of five taka. Besides, ginger and garlic are being sold at Tk 80 to Tk 100 per kg depending on the size.

Sohrab Ali, a vegetable seller in Rangpur City Bazar, said that when the import of vegetables in the market is low, the price goes up. A few days ago, due to high import, Sajon was sold at 55 to 60 taka. Now it is being sold at 90 to 100 taka.

Meanwhile, lentil pulses (medium) have been increased by Tk 10 to Tk 110, lentils are being sold at Tk 135 instead of Tk 130, packets and open flour have been increased by Tk 5 to Tk 45 to 50 and flour is being sold at Tk 65 to 70.

During the week, the price of rice has increased by two to three rupees per kg in the retail market. Gold (thick) is now being sold at Tk 46 instead of Tk 48, Bri-28 (old) at Tk 55 to 60, Bri-28 (new) at Tk 50, Miniket at Tk 6 and Nazirshail at Tk 6 to 80 instead of Tk 75 per kg. Rustam Ali, a rice seller in City Bazar, said it had become difficult to dry the paddy due to rains in the last few days. This has affected the rice market. However, the rice market will return to normal as the weather is favorable at present.
